Tinajo

Tinajo is one of the seven municipalities of Lanzarote. Tinajo long belonged to the lands of Inaguaden, and gained its independence as a municipality in 1802. Besides the main town other places include: Casas del Islote; El Cuchillo; Casas de Guiguan; Mancha Blanca; La Santa and La Vegueta, belonging to Tinguaton Tajaste and to the community.

The lively, elongated Tinajo capital is the hub of an extensive market gardening region. In addition, here is the famous wrestling aren, Terrero. Of interest is the parish church of San Roque, dating from the late 18th Century. It has two aisles from the front, on the left a stone baptismal font and baptistry grown.

In the following spaces the processional figures are kept, such as Tinajoriding on a Santiago donkey. In the nave is the finely carved Mudejar ceiling, whose fields are blue and red. A feature of the partly gilded, white framed wall of the main altar, is the crucifix of the famous canary sculptor Lujan Perez. Worth mentioning is also a portrait of his pupil Marie Fernando Estevez.
