San Bartolome

San Bartolome is one of the seven municipalities of the Canary Island of Lanzarote. It is located in the geographical center of the island. The administrative headquarters is located in the same place.

San Bartolome was known among the Natives by the name Ajey, which means small town.

Its minaret-tower complex in palmengeschmückten and the church in San BartolomePlaza Leon y Castillo are striking. The Iglesia de San Martin was founded in 1787 by Cayetano Guerra. The interior of the nave church has a coffered ceiling in a Mudejar style. The altars present themselves in simple peasant-neo-classicism. Pillars and the floor of the church are made of light gray volcanic stone carving.

The Ethnographic Museum Tanit is a building dating from the 18th Century, housed, and was inaugurated in February 2000. Also the culture Ajey is located in a building dating from the 18th Century. There many tools of the Canarian farmers that can be seen. The Monumento al Campesino (peasant monument) is located in the village belonging to the municipality of San Bartolomée Mozaga.

It is a typical example of traditional rural architecture. This is where the monument stands on the fertility, which symbolizes the unity of the peasant society. It was realized by Jesus Soto and designed by the artist and conservationist Cesar Manrique. The farm houses a museum, bar, restaurant, shop, workshops and a crafts museum.
