Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise is a modern, spacious holiday resort on Lanzarote. The village is located about ten kilometers northeast of the island’s capital Arrecife.
In the early 70s it started as an artificial city specifically built for tourism on Costa Teguisethe east coast of the municipality of Teguise.  At its origin in the early years was the famous Canarian architect Cesar Manrique and environmentalists were crucially involved. In 1977 he designed the garden and pool areas of the five-star hotel Melia Salinas, whose architect was Fernando Higueras.

The white buildings of the new resort are in a Canarian style, with green or brown windows and the number of floors was limited.  He designed Village Pueblo Marinero with more than two tiers, with its buildings in the Avenida de las Islas Canarias in the center of Costa Teguise.  In many places, the picture has changed and many large hotels were built.
In Costa Teguise there are hardly any locals, but lots of tourists. The specific number of residents is 6,324 (as of 2008).  There is a long shopping area with numerous restaurants, shopping malls and car rentals.

There is a long beach promenade with beer gardens and cafes.  All the beaches have been artificially created, including the Playa de los Charcos, Playa de las Cucharas, Playa Marinero and Playa del Bastian. Windsurfers will find optimal conditions.  There is a public bus service to the capital and the surrounding region. The road network is well developed. Costa Teguise has its own port.
