Tunnel of Atlantis

The Tunnel of Atlantis is a volcanic pipe (Lava Tube) submarine on the north coast of the island of Lanzarote. Its origin is in the lava tube that comes from the volcano of the Crown, which also includes the Cave of the Greens and Water Jameos.

This is the largest submarine volcanic tube on the planet at 1600 Tunnel of Atlantismeters, and is formed out of water, like a lava tube current. Inside there are fourteen species of endemic animals.

The Tunnel of Atlantis and the Cave of the Greens are part of a lava tube more than 7km in length, which was formed between 3,000 and 4,500 years after the eruption of Crown.
Jameos Water is the natural entrance to the Tunnel of Atlantis, located north of the island of Lanzarote in the town of Haria. The first exploration was in 1972. In 1986, a team of Franco-Belgian divers reached the 1618m run, the point where the tunnel ends is at a depth of 64m.
