Famara-Guatifay

The mountains of Famara-Guatifay bind the northern tip of the island. This is the location of the highest point of Lanzarote, the Penas Famara-GuatifayChacho’s, that is 670 meters high and falls into the sea from a huge cliff known as the Risco de Famara. This is one of the oldest geological formations on the island and on the whole of the Canary archipelago. It consists of a stack of cast basalt fissure.

The massive cliffs of Famara are very important from a biological point of view, its peculiarities and difficulties of access making them natural sanctuaries. The cliffs have many endemic plants and endangered species. From the top of the Risco de Famara is an unmatched panoramic view of the island of La Graciosa, which is separated from Lanzarote by a narrow arm of sea known as The River.

This was precisely the area chosen by the artist Cesar Manrique Lanzarote to locate the Mirador Del Rio, from which to capture the best views of the archipelago Chinijo.
