El Jable

A tongue of land on the island of Lanzarote, known as El Jable, is covered with sand and runs through the middle of the island from the El Jablebeaches of Famara. It deposits particles in the sandy coastal areas that have become the nuclei of the population, along with the tourist resorts of Puerto del Carmen, Arricife, and Playa Honda.

These landscapes are the result of the peculiar orientation of the Massif de Famara, which requires turning a dominant wind in the north, to move into the northwest winds. On the island by the beach of Famara, sands form dune landscapes in this environment of high biological and landscape interest. The area is a nesting area for endangered species like the houbara bustard.
